Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 – Preview

by The Ricass on Jun.14, 2010, under Previews, Previews/Reviews

The Lego series of games is pretty awesome, I’ll be honest. They manage to mix up a wonderful children’s brand with some of the best films made, creating an environment fit for everyone of all ages, and then essentially making the original film a lot funnier without the means of any dialogue, apart from some mumbling. And now a new film series is getting the Lego treatment. But is Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 looking any good? (continue reading…)

Green Day: Rock Band – Preview

by The Ricass on May.28, 2010, under Previews

Remember how I keep bitching about the Guitar Hero series and the fact that there’s a new game every month or two, and it’s almost identical to the last one? Yeah, you should have worked out by now that I’m quite firmly in the Rock Band camp. Even their band specific games have higher production values than the Guitar Hero equivalent (GH: Van Halen, for example, was a carbon copy of GH4, which was stupidly disappointing). Wait, what’s this? Green Day: Rock Band? Around a year after Beatles: Rock Band? …It’s going to be a long night. (continue reading…)

Skate 3 – Review

by The Ricass on May.28, 2010, under Reviews

This May turned out to be a pretty good month for gaming. First off we got Alan Wake and Skate 3, followed by Red Dead Redemption and Split/Second, coming up we have Alpha Protocol and Blur… if you’re rich and geeky, this sure is a good month for you! Sadly, I’m only one of those, and I think we’ve already established that I’m a geek. So, here’s a review of the one game I’ve managed to pick up through all these wonderful releases: Skate 3. Planet 51: The Game – Review

by The Ricass on Apr.26, 2010, under Previews/Reviews, Reviews

I’m not entirely sure why I bought this game. I mean, I previewed the damn thing and declared it a horrible GTA rip-off, stating I would most definitely never buy it. And then, a few months later, a parcel arrives through my letterbox containing this, this festering pile of awful that I had foolishly parted money for. So, after forcing myself to complete the game to 100%, I have finally decided to review it before I hand it over to my girlfriend to destroy. Here goes then. Planet 51: The Game. (continue reading…)

Skate 3 – Preview

by The Ricass on Apr.26, 2010, under Previews, Previews/Reviews

Remember when I did a preview of Just Cause 2; I mentioned I loved extreme sports games? Well, the most prolific genre in that category is the skateboarding game, and boy do I lap that stuff up. Every year Activision release a new Tony Hawks game, and every year I find myself mildly disgusted at myself for lining their back pockets with my hard earned cash to give it a go, safe in the knowledge that I’m going to hate it. But good news! EA started making that series called Skate, which is something I can get behind. And now it’s on its third instalment, the aptly named Skate 3. (continue reading…)

Blur – Preview

by The Ricass on Apr.21, 2010, under Previews, Previews/Reviews

As it happens, I’ve been playing the Blur beta since it got released as a private one from way back. I guess I just kept forgetting to write about it. But hey, it’s officially a demo now, so time for a preview! (continue reading…)

Splinter Cell: Conviction – Preview

by The Ricass on Mar.22, 2010, under Previews, Previews/Reviews

I can’t do stealth games. I guess I just don’t have the patience for ‘em, you know, all that sitting in the shadows, waiting for the enemy to walk past before sneaking past and getting to your goal. Still, I do enjoy a bit of the ol’ Splinter Cell, which has plenty of scope for killing everyone on the map. So I was kinda looking forward to the demo of Splinter Cell: Conviction. Bioshock 2 – Review

by The Ricass on Mar.08, 2010, under Previews/Reviews, Reviews

Bioshock. That was a great game, wasn’t it? Apparently it was just System Shock 2 but upgraded, although I never played that game, so I have no idea. Still, great game. Shooting bad guys underwater, great story with plenty of interesting stuff going on, and crazy plasmid mutation thingies going on. Naturally, a sequel had to be made. So, as you might have guessed, tonight’s review is of that sequel, Bioshock 2. And boy, does it suck. (continue reading…)

Just Cause 2 – Preview

by The Ricass on Mar.08, 2010, under Previews, Previews/Reviews

I’m interested in extreme sports. Not to the extent that I’d ever give them a go, god no, I’m way too much of a coward for that. Particularly parachuting. I mean, that involves throwing yourself from huge heights, praying to God that the bag on your back will open up and take you to safety. Eugh. Instead, I play video games with these things in. So I’m sure you can imagine my excitement when the Just Cause 2 demo dropped. (continue reading…)

Army of Two: The 40th Day – Review

by The Ricass on Feb.28, 2010, under Previews/Reviews, Reviews

Remember a while back when I did that preview of Army of Two: The 40th Day? If you can recall, my major complaint was my real life co-op partner, whose preferred version of the game consisted of being a major inconvenience at all costs. Well, I picked up the retail version of the game, and no longer have that complaint. Thank God for friendly AI. So, here’s a proper review of Army of Two: The 40th Day, the first review on this site that also got previewed (in case you were wondering). (continue reading…)
